CM-333 IRON HOOPED CASK LOAD

Royal Navy cask load for the 19th century. The oak or pine wood staves of a cask were held together by hoops made of wrought iron, with the exception of powderbarrels.Iron hooped casks were introduced in the Royal Navy during the late 18th century’s industrial revolution, replacing withy (twig) hooped casks. By 1830 Iron hoops were of common use in the merchant fleet too.

This set represents cask types used for transporting fresh drinking water by small ships boats to sailing ships.
