CM-332 IRON HOOPED CASKS

Royal Navy cask assortment for the 19th century. Iron hooped casks were introduced in the Royal Navy during the late 18th century’s industrial revolution, replacing withy (wood) hooped casks. By 1830 Iron hoops were of common use in the merchant fleet too. The oak or pine wood staves of a cask were held together by hoops made of wrought iron, with the exception of powderbarrels.
